You Don’t Have to Die Twice to Be in the State of Presence: The Story of Jake

BY Marc Mathys
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of meetings, deadlines, and endless to-do lists. For Jake, a bustling executive, this was his everyday reality. He barely noticed the days slipping by until one fateful morning when everything changed.
A sharp pain shot through Jake’s head, and in an instant, his world went black. He had suffered his first stroke. The recovery was grueling and the road to regaining his old life was long and arduous.
Despite the challenges, Jake’s drive to return to his former self kept him pushing forward. Just as he was beginning to feel like himself again, the unthinkable happened—a second stroke.
This time, the fear was different. It wasn’t just about survival; it was about meaning. Laying in his hospital bed, Jake realized he had been given a rare gift: a second chance to truly live. He understood now that you don’t have to die twice to live in the moment.
From then on, Jake embraced life with a newfound clarity. He cherished every sunrise, every laugh with friends, and every quiet moment of peace. He left work early to catch his son’s soccer games, took his wife on spontaneous trips, and found joy in the simple things he had once overlooked. Jake learned that the only thing that truly mattered was the present moment.
And in living fully in each one, he found the happiness he had been chasing all along. Jake’s story is a powerful reminder that we don’t need a life-altering event to realize the importance of being present.
Each of us has the ability to slow down, appreciate the little things, and live fully in the here and now. By doing so, we can find the happiness and fulfillment we’ve been searching for. So take a moment to pause, breathe, and truly experience the present.
You don’t have to die twice to be in the state of presence. Embrace the gift of today and Reset your life.
